Trophy Bag Kooler A Great System for Arizona

I had the pleasure of representing Trophy Bag Kooler at the Cabela’s Fall Outdoor Days a few weeks ago. Rick Lopez, from Double Buck Taxidermy helped out the following weekend. The biggest enemies of meat care in the field are heat, moisture and bacteria. With the Game Fresh System, you conquer all three. A bag custom made with legholes (and drawstrings) and a flap for antlers. It is insulated and is an official Licensed Product of Mossy Oak, available in New BreakUp and Brush Camo.

Trophy Bag Kooler and The Game Fresh System was developed for transporting harvested game or for aging meat. Many animals like deer, antelope, hogs, turkey and elk have been transported. Proper handling in the field is extremely important, the faster you clean it and cool it down the better the quality of meat. Just pack it in Ice and Go! There are several forms of coolants you can use double bagged ice, our KoolerGel product in 2-liter bottles with water or water frozen in milk jugs, etc.

The outside material comes in the New BreakUp or Brush pattern developed by Mossy Oak, the material is a 600D with PU backing (polyurethane) and DWR (durable water resistant) on the outside so it won’t absorb water. This material is extremely durable and should last for years.

The zipper on the bag has a 150lb per square inch rating, so it’s extremely durable when pulling on/or for picking up the bag and there’s also a handle on each end.

The inner insulation is closed cell foam. The thermal radiant barrier energy shield liner contains an anti-microbial chemical so mold, mildew and bacteria won’t grow on the liner. The liner should give you years of use and it’s easy to clean, just wash it out with soap and water. The car wash works great just hang it on the floor mat holder spray with soap let it set for a couple of minutes and rinse it off. Use the strap to hang it in a tree, be sure to keep the bag open so it will air dry completely before storing. It fits underneath your fold down truck seat for easy storage.

The Game Fresh System comes with all three products:

*Trophy Bag Kooler it’s a multi-purpose bag and it’s used for transporting animals.

*The Game Fresh Spray, an antimicrobial spray that helps disinfect and control growth of bacteria and other micro-organisms on wild game when transporting or aging meat.

*The KoolerGel, when mixed with water and frozen in 2ltr bottles will last 30 to 40 percent longer than regular ice and you don’t get all the moisture. Multi-purpose use and it can be used in your food cooler, fish cooler or for cooling down animals or their meat.

Steve Glass, the owner, tells me that these are working so good that hunters and meatcutters are actually using the bags to age meat, not just transport it. These things are going to be a Godsend for some Arizona hunters!

Remington® set to introduce HyperSonic Steel™

Remington® set to introduce HyperSonic Steel™

The World’s Fastest Waterfowl Shotshell. Featuring the New Xelerator® Wad Technology

Madison, NC – Few things are more challenging than hitting fast moving, high flying waterfowl. To meet this challenge, Remington is proud to introduce the fastest velocity, highest downrange pattern energies ever produced in the history of steel waterfowl loads; the revolutionary new HyperSonic Steel™. To put it simply, waterfowl hunters now have the fastest, hardest-hitting, steel shot shell in the world, resulting in shorter leads to help hunters be more successful.

At the heart of the new HyperSonic Steel™ load is the patent pending Xelerator® Wad. The newly designed wad features a unique Ignition Chamber which allows higher velocity with safe pressures.
How does the Xelerator® Wad work? The primer ignites a small portion of the powder charge captured in the “Ignition Chamber”, this captive charge accelerates the wad and payload forward until the remainder of the powder charge is ignited. The increased volume behind the wad allows for the remainder of the propellant to burn, driving the shot to 1700 fps without causing excessive pressure – all in just a fraction of a millisecond.

With the HyperSonic Steel™ producing velocities at 1700fps, the lead on flying ducks is shortened by 8-inches at 40 yards which gives the hunter a higher success rate and less crippling with fewer shots. Now waterfowl hunters have a load with the highest steel pattern energy ever produced; up to 16% greater energy than current steel high velocity loads, with longer-range lethality in 10 load choices. “ At 1700 fps HyperSonic Steel™ is the most innovative and exciting shotshell developed in decades. It will change the way that we hunt waterfowl”. Kevin Cross, Remington Research Engineer - Ammunition.

Features for the New HyperSonic Steel Waterfowl Loads
    • Patent Pending Xelerator Ignition Chamber Technology
o Allows Highest Velocity with Safe Pressures
    • The “World’s FASTEST” Waterfowl Loads Available
    • Highest Steel Pattern Energy, 16% Greater Energy
    • Longer-Range Lethality
    • Industry-Leading 1700 fps Velocity – All Loads
o Shortens Leads by 11% (8 Inches at 40 Yards) About a Duck’s Body Length
    • Higher Success Rate – Fewer Shots Required
    • For the same shot size- Same On-Game Lead in Every Load

    Awesome Concept From Ribz

Awhile back, I was contacting purveyors of spices and rubs, in order to start building relationships to support my new smoking blog, the Dry Rubbed Rat. One of the responses I received back was from Ray Richardson from Raptor Rubs. So anyway, Ray indicated in his response that he was doing some restructuring in his rubs business, but he was excited to talk to me about a pack that he makes. He said he’d send me one to try, and in the meantime, directed me to his website: RibzWear.com. I thought the concept looked cool, and soon a package arrived from Ray.

If any of you are familiar with today’s military you will know that our troops in the field have grown well beyond the “webbing” of old; nowadays they utilize any number of carrying systems, load bearing vests, etc. Many of these systems carry items on the front and sides of your body. That’s what the pack from Ribz does.

Here’s how they describe their pack system:

RIBZ front pack is designed for the avid sportsman who needs his/her critical gear in a quick & ready location. Easily accessible from the front and designed to work with any traditional backpack or independently, RIBZ allows you to keep your essential gear in a fast and easy to reach location.

The Ribz front pack is an excellent option for those putting together an ultralight backpacking strategy. Their weight is under a pound, at 11 oz. Utilizing the 800 cubic inches of storage in the front pack can reduce the size of your backpack dramatically. Front packs move a portion of the weight forward, improving the balance of the load, and improving your posture and mobility. Four external zippered pockets, and four additional internal pockets provide plenty of storage options.

The shoulder straps of the RIBZ pack are extra-wide, heavy-duty nylon, designed to evenly distribute the weight, yet remain comfortable when wearing with an additional backpack. The back of the RIBZ pack consists of two adjustable velcro straps which will not bunch up or sag when wearing the RIBZ with backpack.

Whether backpacking or snowboarding, fishing or hunting, biking or kayaking, or just out day hiking, we’re confident once you’ve used your RIBZ, you’ll never leave home without ‘em

I have to tell you, I can’t wait to get this on out in the field. The first thing you notice about the pack is how stout the construction is. The material is tough, the zippers and buckles are heavy-duty, the stitching is well-done. I can’t believe this is going to tear or fall apart. It is comfortable when it is on, and doesn’t interfere with my other pack. It’s the bomb. To my detriment sometimes in the field, I utilize every square inch of my Badlands 2800 pack. Simply put, I simply carry too much, especially on “light” hunts. All of those pounds (along with my own “extra” pounds) add up. I have thought about going to a butt pack type system, but they look too small. I think a butt pack, combined with the Ribz will be absolutely, just right. When I do go with the bigger pack, the Ribz system will allow me to get at all the things I normally set my pack down for, whether I want to or not. My Ribz pack will hold some water, a snack, GPS, range finder, predator call, and maybe my wind-checker squeeze bottle. Seriously, I am psyched.

The Ribz retails for about 70 bucks, and you can buy them online at Ray’s site. Ribz Store. The packs come with a two-year warranty and are available in a variety of colors including Camo. Ray and I talked on the phone and I can tell you he is dedicated to putting out a perfect product. He was very insistent that I let him know dislikes or areas of improvement. My first comment was that I’m a pretty big guy, and had pretty much used up all of the adjustment on the pack - Ray has already fixed that. I said that the material used wasn’t ultra-noisy, but that guys who hunt in brush might want something more quiet. Ray is already looking at alternate materials.

Look for an interview with Ray in the future. He’s a dynamic guy excited about his product, and he should be. I think this will take off. Look for some future reviews from me - from the field instead of my living room. I can’t wait! Last, Ray has some awesome things looming on the horizon for Ribz. More on that, when the time is right.

In summary, this concept was born in the backpack movement and is just breaking into the hunting end of things. Frankly, I see an endless number of uses. Dog trainers, boaters, fishermen, canoe people, hikers - the sky is the limit. Well done!

What’s New With Trophy Bag Kooler?

I talked with Steve Glass from Trophy Bag Kooler a couple of weeks ago. He’s pretty excited, and they have a ton of stuff going on! They have a revamped website which looks awesome! They have a new and improved antimicrobial spray. Steve tells me that their Kooler Bag works so well, that there are a lot of people now using their bags to actually age their meat it!

    Marshall,

Yes, everything is going very well for us. We are moving right along and with our game Fresh System being pick up by Cabela’s we think this fall hunting season is going to be great for our company. Just with the addition of Cabela’s our products are already starting to receive recognition from all over the world. We also added a large European Distributor and the first orders were just shipped to Germany.

The new product is a smaller bag we will use as a price leader, this bag is 23″x47″ and it’s perfect to use as a meat bag for aging meat. I think this bag has a lot of uses and being smaller it’s easier to handle and we found most people will buy two of them.

Julie made a new press release (see attached).

We are also working on a fish bag.

    Thanks,

    Steve

TROPHY BAG KOOLER ANNOUNCES NEW LOWER COST BAGS

Introducing the New Additions to the Trophy Bag Kooler™ Line of
Products for Transporting or Aging Meat

The Trophy Bag KoolerTM was developed to provide hunters with an alternative solution to help preserve the quality of the game they harvest. Millions of people in the United States and abroad hunt wild game, such as deer, antelope, hogs, elk, and turkeys. Once the animal has been successfully harvested, the majority of hunters often desire to transport the animal out of the wild where it can be processed, both for its meat and as a trophy. Consequently, there is a need for a device to aid hunters in transporting the game that maintains the integrity of both the animal’s meat and potential trophy. The Trophy Bag Kooler™ was designed to meet this need as a short-term portable storage unit for transporting or aging the harvested animal and now comes in TWO NEW lower cost versions. A large bag in a NEW Buckskin color and a smaller version that is perfect as a meat or cape bag or for smaller game like small hogs, turkeys, quartered game, and small exotics. The small bag also comes in the NEW Buckskin color and measures 23” x 47”.

Both of the new Trophy Bag Kooler™ bags are designed with the same quality of material and attention to detail as the original Trophy Bag Kooler’s. Each unit works equally as well with our KoolerGel™ product (recommended) to maintain sufficient temperatures of 36 to 40 degrees, when warm weather can possibly be a factor. Both units provide a suitable environment for the cape of the animal and help prevent slippage if the hunter chooses to mount the trophy. They also help to keep out bugs and flies.

The Trophy Bag Kooler™ is reusable and has the durability to last for years. And best of all, it is made right here in the USA!

If warm temperatures are a problem in your neck of the woods, then check out the Trophy Bag KoolerTM. It is a must own product for every hunter and the do-it-yourself home processor, and now with several sizes and patterns available, various sized game can easily be accommodated.

This will be one of the most interesting products I have seen for awhile, and I want to thank Ray up front, for the opportunity to have a closer look.

    HotHands Handwarmers

David French from HandWarmers.net had contacted me and asked if I would mind reviewing his handwarmers, to which I agreed. I was a bit at a loss though; I received the handwarmers in late February, and all my cold-weather hunts were over for the year. I asked David what he thought and he said he would just appreciate the mention, at this point. I would have rather posted a review based on an actual use, during a hunt. So, I dug out his warmers and sat down to type the review. My daughter was hanging around and said “Oh - those are the things I used on my (javelina) hunt.” “Are you sure”‘ I asked. “The same kind?” She insisted they were so she ran to get her backpack. The wrappers were still inside, and sure enough - they were the same.

In January, I had taken my daughter Mikaela on a javelina hunt, with the help of some friends. Now even though we were just north of Phoenix, Day One was probably the coldest day I had spent afield, in Arizona. We were snowed on, sleeted on and rained on. It was windy, wet, cold and miserable. David’s HotHands packets made the day tolerable for both of us! These are light, easy to use, and take up no room in a pack. There’s nothing to fail, and stuck in the end of a glove or mitten, they are awesome on a cold day. We live in Arizona and they came in handy - if I was still living in Maine, I think I’d be buying them by the case! You can read Mikaela’s version of the story here: Tale of the Sunset Sow.

I asked Mikaela if the handwarmers had worked good on her hunt. “Oh yeah”, she exclaimed, “they were awesome!”.

David also sells “Toasti Toes” (pictured above) to put in your boots, and a large heat patch for those sore spots anywhere on your body. Great products!

A Word About Mad Cow Cutlery

I need to throw a big shout out to Daniel Clay of Mad Cow Cutlery. In getting my other blog, The Dry-Rubbed Rat going, I had contacted a bunch of companies when my blog went live, offering to post press releases, company profiles, reviews, etc.

Daniel replied and offered to send me a bunch of knives and tools to help me get started. The box arrived today, and let me tell you, this is quality stuff. I’ll be posting photos, reviews, etc in the weeks to come, over at the Dry Rubbed Rat. They’ve also offered to provide as much information possible, so look for future posts on sharpening, how to choose the right knife for the job, etc. because sportsmen and women are typically big users of cutlery, I will be posting that info here as well. What a great company, and I look forward to working with them in the future!

Seriously - if you need a knife, a sharpener, whatever - you need to check with the folks over at Mad Cow Cutlery.

    From their website:

Mad Cow Cutlery is a family owned and managed cutlery business located in the Heart of Texas, between Austin and San Angelo. Though we are rurally located in the middle of some of the best hunting and ranch land, we are within 3 hours or less of five cities with populations over 100,000-including Austin, San Antonio, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This close proximity to so many large cities, and our central location in the United States, allows us to reduce shipping times-especially to the east and west coasts.

As a family operated business, you can be assured that someone with an invested interest in the success of Mad Cow Cutlery will be involved in the quality control of every aspect of the business from answering questions to shipping. It is our goal to provide a level of customer service that exceeds the expectations of our customers.

We want to be your supplier of commercial cutlery, but Mad Cow Cutlery is more than just a knife shop. In 2008 we completed the construction of a new warehouse and offices to expand our product lines and better handle the large number of products that we keep in stock ready to ship. Browse our lines of knives, sharpening stones, graters, tenderizers, grill tools, kitchen utensils and other quality brand commercial and home utensils and you will realize that Mad Cow Cutlery can meet all of your commercial and home processing and cooking utensil needs.

Being a small business doesn’t mean small selections and limited services. Since we are more specialized in the products we sell, Mad Cow Cutlery stocks larger selections of cutlery and cooking utensils than the larger corporate distributors of processing and restaurant knives and accessories. Our online store is loaded with the latest features and securities-designed and maintained by some of the leading names in the business.

Payment transactions feature the newest levels of security. We use merchant services provided by some of the largest names in payment processing. Since part of Mad Cow Cutlery’s continued success and growth depends on our reputation, you can be assured that your privacy and security is a top concern. Our outstanding relationship with our manufacturers, along with our volume purchasing abilities, allows us to offer some of the best deals on professional knives-especially on larger volume orders from meat processing establishments and chain restaurants.

The main difference you will notice shopping with Mad Cow Cutlery is our personal service. Everyone at Mad Cow Cutlery is dedicated to providing friendly, fast, and accurate service. Without our customers we couldn’t do what we love, so you can be guaranteed that you are our top priority. If you ever have a question, comment or complaint about any of our products or services, please don’t hesitate to contact us at customerservice@madcowcutlery.com

We love feedback from our customers, so drop us an email at feedback@madcowcutlery.com.

Mad Cow Cutlery also operates one of the top rated and largest cutlery sites on ebay. Mad Cow Cutlery started experimenting with online selling on ebay. Over the years it allowed us to fine-tune our customer service and shipping methods. We still continue selling on ebay to reach a market segment that only shops on ebay. We have earned both Power Seller and Top Rater Seller credentials from ebay. You can use the link below to view our feedback.

Desert Rat Chats With Sparky From M2D Camo

Mike (Sparky) Sparkes and I have been having some e-mail correspondence and I thought my readers might enjoy learning more. Sparky owns M2D camo. They have a great looking product. You’ll also want to check out their TV Show - “Livin The Dream”~DesertRat

    1) Thanks for taking the time for an interview Sparky - how long has M2D Camo been on the market?
I designed M2D CAMO in the fall of 2005 and unveiled it at the ATA and Shot Show in Jan of 2006. So we have been on the market about 3 seasons.

    2) How have sales been in this economy?

Sales have been okay. As a small company we have grown in our 3 years of sales so that is good. We continue to get new customers, because we have a very good word of mouth product. People that wear M2D CAMO love to tell others about how great it truly does work. It’s hard to argue with that. I think the economy has made things more difficult for a small company as Dealers don’t buy new products as much, and big dealers stick with what they know has proven itself already.

    3) Why did you decide to develop your line of camo?
I was sick and tired of all the camo out there because no matter what you wear, it all BLACK BLOBS at a very short distance. I wanted a pattern that stayed light in color, and actually created a pattern that has the ability to appear to change colors, no matter your environment. It truly is amazing to watch it change colors when you move from one location to the next. We believe anybody that truly gives it a shot in the woods, will love it. That’s why we offer a 100% money back guarantee. We have a lot of naysayers, that tell us our photos are photo shopped, or that it really doesn’t do what we say. Well, if it didn’t, we sure wouldn’t offer a 100% money back guarantee, now would we?

    4) From concept to marketplace, how long did the process take? What were some of the more surprising challenges along the way?
It took about a year and a half to develop and actually make a small run of fabric. Then about another 7 months to actually get to market. There are lots of challenges, when you know nothing about what you are getting into. I didn’t know anything about fabric, dealing with China, clothing, etc. The other major surprise is how loyal some people are to the camos that all look the same, but they want to wear them because of what they say, not because of how they work in the field. Most camo today is designed to look good on the hunter in church, at school, yet does very little to actually conceal you in the real world of hunting.

    5) What is your favorite game to hunt?
I love to hunt Elk in the rut with my bow. I love a good mule deer hunt, as I think a BIG mule deer is one of the hardest trophies out there to get. I love it all, but those are my two favorites.

    6) What’s your dream hunt?
I have been very fortunate to go on many hunts over the last few years, harvest some nice animals, meet some GREAT people along the way, and just have good times with good people. I love all hunting from predators and birds to big game. My dream hunts are hunts I can afford, and that pretty much keeps me in the US and Canada. BUT, if costs were no object, and I could hunt one thing and not worry about it, I would want a nice male lion from Africa. I am a Leo, and have always loved lions. So regal. Second would be a Grizzly bear hunt. Maybe someday I will be lucky enough to go hunt one and film for my TV show….you never know….that’s why they call it a DREAM HUNT

    7) Where would you like to see M2D Camo five years from now?
I would like to see M2D CAMO still growing and gaining a bigger following. The longer we stick around, the more customers we continue to become true believes in M2D CAMO. I hope we still have our TV show, and my biggest hope is that we are finally in the big box stores so everyone out there can have access to M2D CAMO in their own local markets.

8 ) Anything exciting coming in the near future for M2D?
We have a great fleece line that we introduced this year, that people LOVE. We also made our pattern available for the water transfer process, or dipping as it is called. I have developed a pretty cool snow pattern that we just got the samples for, so we may come out with that for the fall of 2010. We hope to have more specialty products this fall like pop up blinds, lay out blinds, decoy bags, back packs, fanny packs, and maybe a few more items.

Thanks so much for taking some time for my readers!

Your very welcome, and Thank you for taking the time to learn more about myself and M2D CAMO.

Folks, I strongly encourage you to check out M2D Camo’s website. It’s a site that has a lot of neat stuff, and it is put together well. You can order M2D online at their store. DesertRat
